Hello,
I am a newbie on this forum but have searched everywhere here for some help on an issue I'm having with my AVIC F700BT. I bought a car that had this unit installed in it and I immediately noticed some performance issues with it. I decided to goto Pioneer's website as the seller didn't keep anything on this unit, no registration card, manual...nothing. Anyways, I found the instructions from Pioneer's website to find my firmware version which was 1.0. Their site directed me upgrade the unit myself to 2.006. I used my 8 GB SD card and got the two directories off their download for the new firmware revision. I slid in the SD card and turned on my ignition. Since their website told me the upgrade would take approximately 10 minutes, I was not surprised that 9:54 minutes in the upgrade completed and the unit rebooted. Once it came back up all seemed normal, which then since it was not a black screen I was advised to hit the reset button and then watch the magic. The unit rebooted, and now it gets to the Top Menu screen and look normal. Unfortunately when I press anything on the screen itself, it allows one screen touch and sometimes goes to the next screen but then....ugh...is frozen. Here's what I have tried so far:
1 - Called Pioneer. They instructed me to hit the reset and the eject button for 10 seconds, then let the machine reboot. Then since it failed, hit reset and eject for 10 seconds, let go of the reset and holding the eject for 10 more seconds. Their advice - send in the machine own my own dime and have them repair it.
2 - Downloaded the testmode2.3 and installed the files on my newly formatted my SD card. I placed in the 700BT and windows comes up, but a very similar issue happens. I click on the screen once and the unit freezes. It does open the start menu but I can't click anything else. Or I can click any desk icon and if I click anywhere else it tries to move the icon to that new spot. Needless to say I cannot use testmode, but from another post in this forum it doesn't seem like a failing screen, just bad software.
3 - Disconnected the battery from the car. Reconnected and no change.
4 - Tried the reset, eject, menu, map and the releasing reset, then eject and having the blue screen with the diagnostic menus open. Those seem to work fine as I can go from menu to menu. I am terified to do anything here because I know if I go much further Pioneer will probably charge me to fix this thing knowing I messed with it past the failed upgrade.
Can any of you help? I don't know if I want to try a 3.0 as if it's ripped it might fail worse that it already is, or if paid for I might be tossing more $$$ down the drain. Should I attempt this with a hacked or retail version and hope I don't have to send to Pioneer? Should I just send back to them and give up? Maybe try to reload windows? I'm so frustrated that I have no idea and am pissed that Pioneer's only response is to return the unit because of their horsesh!t software fubaring my nav.
Any advice would be appreciated and the more detail the better. Thanks in advance to anyone who tries.
B
