F90BT Wired Remote & Voice Command

Hi Everybody!

Probably like most users of the F90 that use the wired remote input, I am extremely disappointed in the fact that using the PAC-SWI-PS interface, even though it is supported on the new models, my good ol' F90 won't support Voice command as a wired remote function.

I suppose I should be happy that the 3.0 software supports Preset Up/Down now, but hey, as Freddy said, I want it all, and I want it now!. LOL

I am fairly new to hacking individual files on the F90, but catch on pretty quick and was basically wondering if there was a mapping file, like there is in data.zip for the hard keys that is for the remote functions?

Even if the remote hardware in the unit is incapable of detecting a Voice Command button press, I would like to be able to remap an existing function that I don't / can't use now to do the Voice Command function. I only have 5 buttons on my steering wheel, Vol Up/Dn, Chan Up/Dn and Mode, which is what I want to use for VC.

I was thinking about using the mute function or source selection. I don't really care about mute functionality in my case, so I was thinking I would like to remap that if possible, or worse case replace the script that is called from the mute function with the one for the Voice Command.

Does anyone that knows this software well think this is possible? and where would I need to look to make some changes?

Thanks in advance for your time,

Ethereal

If it was possible, someone would have don't it by now.

Heh, not necessarily. Thanks to the service manual, we know that the Wired Remote goes to the uCom chip on the AV board, which I'm willing to wager notifies the Navi about the button press (or press and hold) via the UART (COM2). This is probably done by one of the programs in APL (MainMenu, AV or NEventWatcher, perhaps) which sends a message to the application that is currently running in the foreground. We'd probably need to do some hacking on the event dispatcher to do the remapping, the knowledge required is held by a few members here (carver most likely, I'm still working on getting my ROM image cooking skills at the moment).
