GMC Yukon install question

Hello

I'm considering selling my z3 unit and replacing it with a z110bt nav system. I had my z3, ipod adapter (cd-1b100II) xm adapter (gex-p920xm) and bluetooth adapter (nd-bt1) and a audiovox backup camera in a 2004 gmc yukon sle w/ a bose system - no steering wheel controls and no onstar. I got rid of that truck, pulled out all of the pionneer items and put back the stock radio. I now have a 2005 gmc yukon XL w/ a bose system, onstar and steering wheel controls. I am aware that the ipod adapter will not work with this new unit and of course the bluetooth wont be necessary as the z110bt comes w/ it buil in . (thank god i can still reuse my xm adapter)

My question - Am i able to hook up the z110bt until with all of the wiring, filter module, etc. and be able to control the z110bt with the factory steering wheel controls with my new truck? (I will not be activating and/or using the onstar) Both the 2004 and the 2005 gmc trucks have identical interior dashboards

Thanks

Jamie

the wire harness should be the same, and you will need a SWI-PS to retain your steering wheel controls

Does anyone use the PAC SWI-PS with the controls on their steering wheel ???

i'm going to be getting a z110bt and have factory controls on my wheel and wanted to see if anyone has this and how they like it?

Yes.

cool .. how do u like it? does it work the same as your factory controls? are there any delay's or response issues with this add on device?

get an axxess(metra) ASWC for steering wheel controls instead of the PAc module. The axxess is much easier to install, self learning so no need to program it, and in my experience with both of them has less lag and issues that the pac module. You can get them from amazon for around $45.

The Axxess is much easier to install but it does not allow you to choose the functions that are the most important to you. That means it wont allow you to program Voice Control to a button on your steering wheel. The PAC is nearly flawless and works very well. It is a bit challenging to program but is not impossible to accomplish.

Thanks for the responses. I gather there are directions on how to program the pac device? Does this device allow you to switch from AM/FM to XM or iPod ?

Posted Mar 27, 2010 · 02:07 UTC#9

Thats all up to you. You choose which buttons to program to what functions. Forget what is written on the buttons on the steering wheel. You can program any function that the PAC supports to any button you want. In this case, you might program your MODE or SOURCE button to VR which will give you the ability to access the full VR commands. Including source change.

you can choose to manually program the axxess module if you want.

Posted Mar 27, 2010 · 02:42 UTC#11

Really? Well in that case maybe it should be considered. Do you know if it will support VR for Pioneer units?

Posted Mar 27, 2010 · 12:28 UTC#12

That is pretty cool ..

So let's say you program your Mode button on your steering wheel that normally tells you how many miles you have before u run out of gas to VR. If you program that button to handle VR, how does the pac device know to either use VR or to let you know how many miles u have until u run out of gas? ya see what i'm saying?

Well you have to program to buttons that handle the stereo. When I said you could program to any button, that is what I was referring to. And in this case, the button would no longer have its original function sense the original head unit is no longer in place.

Ahhh .. I gotcha ... Makes sense .. Do you have to program all of your steering wheel buttons or can you just program whichever steering wheel buttons you want ?

Posted Mar 27, 2010 · 16:19 UTC#15

You can program just one button or all of them. Its completely up to you.

Awesome .. Good to know.

I'm looking forward to getting this unit. Having owned a Z3, this unit appers to have a lot of improvements. Your video's sold me on a lot of what it can do so thanks for posting...

Well, my z110bt arrived yesterday ... looking forward to getting this installed into my truck.

Very sweet looking piece of hardware, a little sleeker than the z1/z3. iPod cable and the pac swi-ps are on its way so it will all get installed in 1 shot. i'll tell ya, the sound quality of the original z was really enhanced when i had that installed a few years ago .. looking forward to seeing how the sound quality is with this unit when listening to the ipod, cd, am/fm, etc.

caution

not all ASWC can program VR buttons

you need the latest firmware to use the VR on the Z110bt

the good thing is you are able to upgrade firmware to any ASWC box

you juste need the cable USB-CAB and its very cheap

and the software, download free from the web site

i order it at the same time as my ASWC

well, i just purchased the PAC SWI-PS Sony and Pioneer Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface from Amazon (brand new) and its on its way. how are you able to tell what firmware revision it has? will it tell you on the box or on the unit itself? where can u get the USB-CAB ? are you referring to a standard usb cable?

it should be on a sticker on the box itself

im talking about the Axxess ASWC only

the pac swi-ps are not able tu upgrade the firmware, maybe but only pac can do

the Axxess ASWC are upgradable by the end user with the cable USB-CAB

i order it from my local shop at the same time

E-mailed both PAC and Amazon.

PAC started out with the stance "don't buy online because you can't tell" and threw in the dig 'online discount sites' --- I pointed him to his own site that recommended a list of online retailers . . . but it's up to their inventory which revision is sent.

Amazon said they have no way of knowing, but it can be returned without costing me shipping if it's the wrong software.

If I'm forced to go local and pay full $80, I'll probably just pick up the Axxess ASWC.

--EDIT--

These units can't be upgraded, even by PAC . . . which is pretty lame overall.

Hey the SWI-PS I received directly from Amazon a couple days ago was 1.6.8 ($42 shipped).
