Check your sys.txt file for this code in the [3d] section:

show_guidance_strip=1
guidancestrip_stretch=32

If it's there, comment it out. If you don't have it the sys.txt, check the scheme in the color.ini file for the same code and comment it out.

Actually, you *want* guidance strip and you don't want guidance arrow. Use this in your sys.txt:

show_guidance_arrows=0
show_guidance_strip=1
