Route Programming Questions

I just got my new Avic-Z1 and I am very impressed with the unit. I am trying to calculate a route from Colorado to Clearwater, FL visiting relatives and with several hotel stops along the way and also keeping to a southern route.

I plug in my final desitnation and hotel waypoints and the Z1 programs an absurd route and other optional routes provided are also not acceptable. So I start entering in more waypoints using map mode to force the route on highways that keep me from going over mountain passes and sticking to the southern roads I want to travel. I run out of waypoints allowed so I scrap the plan and decide to make the destinations shorter, i.e. from home to the 1st hotel only.

OK, so I want to plan the whole trip in several destinations so now I am ready to enter the second destination. Can I do this? Can I enter several routes and pick them from a list when I need to? The only option I see is Cancel Route and I think this will lose what I have put in so far.

What am I missing here. Am I doing this all wrong or what? What is the best way to do what I want to do here?

Thanks,

Joe

You can go into your guidance preferences and select route types (fastest/shortest/stay off toll roads/etc.) and you can select up to 6 different routes, if I'm not mistaken. Play with it (your Z1) for a while and you'll find a lot of cool features.
