I dont know which wiring harness was used but regardless, shouldnt I be getting more steering wheel controls other than just the volume button??????
Steering Wheel Controls
WEll being a little more specific would help. Like year/make/model of vehicle, but you should be getting more than that if there's more then that on the steering wheel.
2006 navigator
You have a navigator, well the steering wheel controls don't natively interface with the Z1 you need a PAC SWI-PS device. It is hooked to your steering wheel control buttons and translates them into the communication "language" the pioneer can react to. This device needs to be programmed correctly. Sounds like that didn't happen. Did you install this interface? Someone else? Did they/you use one of these SWI-PS devices?
It does work, in fact, if you want to be weird, you can program temperature + to control the radio as well as the AC controls, but who would want to do that? ![]()
Actually it was installed at the dealership where I bought the car new and had the Z1 installed aftermarket through their shop guys. The first time it would not work at all with steering controls. The second time I took it in only the volume will work. I believe they either used the swix or swip harness. I just needed to know that it was possible to program before I was aggressive in asking them to fix it. I am pretty sure that they did not install the vss wire correctly either. No 3d reading and compass is pointing wrong direction. Is this something that I could program without going inside the dash, not very good at stuff like that?
Hopefully they didn't put in the SWI X, the SWI PS is the wired one, the X is the IR one. While it does the job and is more configurable (with what it can send) the wired one is better IMHO.
Either one should be able to be programmed to control almost anything you want. I have an Aviator and I believe the buttons you have are the same as mine: Vol +, Vol -, Media, Mem. Mem I programmed for Memory Preset + and I programmed my media button not for a switch media, but Track +. Those I use more than media switch.
Thanks for your help. That is something that cant be done without going to the dash?

Most likely no. It does depend where they put the SWI-? box. You need to use the key (on/off) and a button on the device itself to program it. If they mounted the box behind the Z1 (like I did) then you would have to get to it to program it.
It's possible they mounted it in a convenient location under your dash, but I doubt it.
It looks like this:

Can you see it under there somewhere?
Thanks for your expertise and contributions to this forum.
I would love to add steering wheel controls to my 2005 tahoe...
Which adapter do i need?
thanks,
Mike

You can use the same adapter ducatiboy mentions in one of the other posts. They're universal and are programmed to the individual vehicle.
What controller do you recommend for keeping the steering wheel controls and a z1? I s it somthing can do myself? I hooked up the DB bypass in about 10min. ![]()
pac swi-ps, but what car do you have jman?
ford expedition 05 limited
yeah probably swi ps by pac
probably? Anyone else before I but it?
yeah, probably since I dont have that vehicle, I never worked on that vehicle, and I probably dont like that vehicle... lol kiddin on that last one...
The swi-ps will work fine. As has been talked about in the past with the steering interface, make sure you read the directions several times and understand exactly what you have to do otherwise getting it programmed will be a nightmare.

You might like this one? This is a suped up version of the better known mommy mobile. Before the Z1 , and after the tint, I removed the steps and badges,(we don't need no stinkin badges),dropped the behemoth 2" Added brembo set on all 4 corners. Had the alighnment kit installed to get the ride better than stock. Lost the rack on top to add to the low look. Speed grill upper and lower front grill. Added custom fabbed sport tubes to hide any frame and further the low effect. HID head lights.Added a navigator chrome beltline. The Roush supercharger that is still in its box will replace the K&N and h-tech programmer to get the Roush 20's and the yokohama Parada spec X's melted in short order. I sold my custom Z-71 and my hard top vette to be more family friendly but still have fun. I'll post pics. It gets alot of looks mostly by the guys trying to figure it out. Dealerships love it. I can't leave anything alone. My newest toy is a 55 buick rod. Sweeeet. ![]()
I installed the SWI-PS when I did my new install, and after about 3 months, it started losing functionality... it would work about 10% of the time I tried it.
I guess I need to take the dash apart and check the connections. Or has anyone else had this issue?

Nope...Mine acts like a retard too....checked connections, reprogrammed....still retarded...

My friends did the exact same thing. I think I 'm gonna stick to the IR remote from Pioneer for now until they fix this thing, cause I'd hate to pull out the unit each time the Pac swi unit acts up.

Well I also bought the IR remote for my wife to play with while I'm driving. I contacted the manufacturer of the SWI-PS shortly after I started having problems, and he told me to make sure the unit was getting power. I'm sure it is... but at least I'm not the only person having hte problem.

So for now I have setup using this remote but its on my E-Brake instead.
