I am looking at an F700bt on my local Craigslist for a pretty decent deal. I've read that the X series has an apple authorisation chip and the f series doesn't. What will that mean for me using my iPhone for bluetooth and an iPod for music and video?

Thanks in advance,

dbl

Nothing. its not a concern for either unit. Both work fine with the Apple devices.

As VBLUE says, the presence of the chip does one thing, and one thing only, it stops the iphone from saying " this isn't a recognized accessory, would you like me to turn on airplane mode?"
