Can someone share how to rig a D1 to connect a ipod to play music. Dont want to buy some ebay bootleg...

The D1 doesn't really have an iPod interface, you just have to get a 3.5mm or dock connection to RCA connection cable and plug it into the AV1 input on the D1.
