Today I am thinking of moving my mic from the steering column to an empty button cover in my dash. My idea is that I am going to drill a hole in the cover and mount the mic behind so that the element of the mic just sticks out a little bit and looks like part of the dash. Has anyone had experience doing this or otherwise partially obscuring the mic due to mounting location? I am wondering if things are going to sound really bad on the other end of conversations.

Others here - and confirmed by Pioneer - the recommended spot is top left (above A pilar). I get poor sound from the steering column - just haven't opened the thing back up to move it yet.
