I just got my tv in and I put it toghter and being that I just purchased it I assumed i wold have to ground both of those wires. Nehow I can play a movie until like 10 MPH or so....when I look at wires connected in options it says my ebrake is on so I am assuming that means it is something to do with the other grounded wire....I was having problems getting the wire in there and im not sure if it went all the way in. Is there a certain way to get that wire all the way in? ( I am assuming thats why it is not working) If so how and if need be is there another wire I could use if I need a new wire to work with? I used the cell phone mute wire. Thanks!
Bypass Problems...

Assuming that your Z1 was made in Mid July or after that, then yes, you ground 2 wire. If your unit was made in Mid July and before then the 2 wire ground won't work unless you update it with the bluetooth cd (or you can get a "flash your headlights" circuit).

Yep that's the problem.

It just slides in and snaps. It is only supposed to go in one way. Look for the metal tang on the terminal and that is what is "caught" by the flexible white tab on the connector. You have to make sure that tang is aligned the correct way. It just slides in and snaps in place, then should be very secure from pulling it out of the connector.
( I am assuming thats why it is not working)
Assuming you have a newer Z1, yes... that's the problem

That wire is fine. As long as you removed the wire and the terminal end together and orientated the terminal the correct way when inserted into the connector... make sure it "clicked in" it should be fine.
I couldnt get it anywhere near the end...i put it in the way in which is looked correct and it would only go in a little bit then it would not go any further...I don't know what was the matter with it.

Either the terminal was damaged when you removed it or you have it oriented the wrong way. (I suppose it's possible it was damaged in the original location, but that wouldn't make any sense why it was in there correctly to begin with) There will only be one way it should go in the whole way.
If you look at the metal tang which is on the terminal and is caught by the plastic tab, the tabs are on the "outside" of the connector. If you pull the terminal out of the top row, and want to plug it into the bottom row, it will have to be rotated 180 degrees, so the metal tang is facing the bottom (the "outside" of the connector).
There are 4 possibilities for orientation of the terminal into the connector. Only 1 is correct and will go in and snap into place. If you have it right, it should easily go in and snap/lock into place.
If that didn't happen, you either damaged the terminal when removing it from the other location or you have it in at the wrong orientation. Try removing it and looking for the metal tang and make sure it's facing "down" in the connector.
Hmm I think I might have damaged it....what other wire can you use thats in one of those harness'? I used the cell phone mute wire...is there another wire I can use or can I buy wires with those connectors on the end somewhere like home depot or something?
You won't find a terminal from any place like home depot or lowes or radio shack. You can probably find one in the DigiKey catalog (or mouser) but they have 10,000 connectors and I haven't scanned through all of them looking for something that would fit.
You can use any wire in connector 1 or 2 that you are not using, it depends on your install. There is a "Guide ON" wire in connector 2 which I doubt anyone has used, you can pull that out. It's in connector 2, top row in the middle somewhere. Take it out twist it 180 degrees pop it in the bottom row where you are supposed to.
I used the "Guide ON" wire in connector 2 and it works fine for me. I am fully bypassed. ![]()

What is the "Guide ON" wire used for anyway?
What is the "Guide ON" wire used for anyway?
The "guide on" wire is on output from the Z1 to an external sound processor in order to mute or lower the volume when the guide voice is speaking. I think that if you have amps or speakers connected to the Z1, those outputs are muted, but if you have the digital signal out from the Z1 to an external sound processor, you hook this line to the sound processor to mute the audio from that when the guide voice speaks to you.
Not something most people use.
And there is ABSOLUTELY no physical difference between the Guide on and the cell phone mute wires, they are different colors. Guide on is from connector 2 and cell phone mute is from connector 1, but they are physically the same wire and terminal. I didn't want that post get people to thinking that one wire is better than another. It doesn't matter what wire you choose as long as it's not used in your particular installation. I would recommend Guide On or Cell Phone Mute cause I would think that 99.9999% of people installing the Z1 won't use either of them.

You know ducati I think I just found 1 thing that makes me envy the z1. That damn guide on feature that no one uses. if my d had that I would be so much happier...

Maybe it's time for an upgrade you cheap bast...
I'm kidding, you aren't cheap. ![]()
Na I found a way around that. All I have to say is thank god for the tr7.
When i took the cell phone mute wire out it kinda came out easily when i tug'd at it...was this wrong? Could I have possibly damaged t by that? Is there a clip or something that releases these wires?

Yes, that's wrong, it should not just "come out". You should need to lift up on the white plastic (part of the connector) which holds in the terminal. You should lift up on the little tab on the connector (which is pointing to the Z1 side of the connector, not the wires side). If you lift up (with a jewelers screw driver) it will just come out. But the metal tang, should keep it in the connector.
My guess is that the wire you have is damaged (or the terminal is damaged). Look on the end for the metal tang sticking up which would "catch" the plastic tab. If that's not there, when you insert connector 2, it won't stay in and will pop out a little and not make a good connection.
That's my guess.
