idk if this has already been done but i wanted to know if you can run some form of windows xp or some other operating system on my unit..i still have 2.0

No, windows XP is not capable of running on the AVIC. The internal processor is not fast enough, nor is there enough system memory to run it.
I really would suggest you to first upgrade to 3.0 before installing any NAV mods as most of these mods in this forum are designed to work with firmware 3.0

you can probably throw some flavor of linux on it... it's an ARM chip with like 512mb? RAM. There's a USB port for peripherals (I wonder if one can put a USB-hub on there.. trying that today)
you can also, easily brick your system
