Hi everyone,

I have a VOLVO XC60 and i've seen in youtube someone integrating an AVIC F500BT inside because it's a hybrid GPS.

my first question is: does the American version compatible with Europe? i mean if I buy an american model via ebay or thing like that, will it work in France? does it have the France map in it? or will I be able to "hack" it in order to install french voices and maps?

second question: do you know if a new model in the Pioneer portfolio is available and replace the F500BT? or does a similar model exist outside Pioneer products in the same range of price?

thank you for your help

I don't think there is any stand alone Nav unit not in 2 din format can match F500BT. However, if I'm in Europe, I would seriously consider using Navigon 8410 in XC60. Check out my install using Cydle T43H, you can properly do the same with Navigon 8410.

There is no replacement for the F500BT. You can also install other countries maps on the unit if you buy a US model. All info on how to do that is on this forum and will require a couple of days of reading.

DIY :) Check the installation instruction of Garmin nav unit from this link http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories/ii/default.aspx.

I bought an extra piece of the facet (~US$ 40), cut a rectangular hole using dremel tool and follow the wiring instruction from above link. The wiring instruction should also give you idea how to wire F500BT.
