Grounding the Parking break and Cell mute wires

Hey Guys,

I know there are posts out there with the answers to these but I need to make sure I am not going to destroy my new avic z1 (very bad).

Bypassing an October '06 Z1

1) To ground the parking break wire:

Vampire clip it to the black ground wire coming out of my WRX wiring harness.

2) To ground the "cell mute wire",

Pull it out and put it in the lower right corner of the avic wiring harness and vampire clip it too the same black ground wire from the wiring harness. OR attack it to a bolt that is directly in contact with the metal chassis.

3) Final Question....... I cut the ground wire coming out of the Z1 and spliced it to the ground wire coming out of my wiring harness. Was that right? I figured there is a ground wire available in the Car wiring harness and therefore no need to find a bolt for the Z1 side ground to attach to.

God I hope I did that right. Gimme some good news. This website rocks by the way, I am so thankful for it..

Thanks Guys

um, the broad answer i guess would be yes. but, what kind of car, cuz some cars dont have a ground in the wire harness. but you should also take in consideration of the gauge the wire is for the ground, the factory head unit and wiring is good, but with an aftermarket head unit where you now have 2,3,4, or more grounds it might be good to make a new clean single ground. Keep in mind that the bypass is for a 'signal' sense, NOT to power the unit in any way, so those really dont put much of a drain on the ground.

I have a 2004 wrx, and my vehicle specific wiring harness comes with a black ground wire in the harness, so in essence I had 2 unconnected ground wires ( the one from the Z1 and the one from the WRX wiring harness) that I figured would need to be connected together to keep that ground going.

Was that a bad idea???????

With this single ground you refer to are you talking about just attaching one of the wires, that needs to be grounded, to the chassis, or attaching the Ground from the Z1 to the chassis and just having the ground coming from the wiring harness be used for the other items that need to be grounded such as the parking brake wire and that converted cell mute wire?

I know I must sound retarded but you are really helping me out so thank you for your time I really appreciate it.

actually, its best to have few ground points, and having a consolidated single point for most to all grounds in the car. multiple grounds can cause engine noise. the z1 has 2 grounds (i believe from memory) but they are connected together at the opposite end then the z1 harness. your subaru ground should be just fine, and an fyi is even if theres a ground on your aftermarket harness that doesnt mean that there is a ground on the car side harness. so yes do it that way you have described, and in your case you can just tap the two wires for the bypass into the black of the z1 harness also. enjoy
