I have searched this subforum concerning the above topic, and have found literally zero matches for terms related to the problem.
While the AVIC unit does well enough with the GPS/routing stuff, one of the problem areas that we have with the unit is the curious lack of a "Shut off the sound" command in the voice control system. Instead, to shut things off we have to do the two or three screen presses, or rely on the always chancy volume knob - hard to hold, hard to turn, prone to sending unwanted commands to the unit. As our unit is installed in a smart forTwo Passion coupe, the short wheelbase amplifies movements within the car, making it even harder to hit a button or the frigging knob just so.
I have read and reread the manual, confusing as it is, but I don't see a vocal command for going silent. I have derived a workaround for the voice command by saying "Set source to CF card", which switches over to the CF card, which (if left empty) plays nothing, thus silencing the beast. But, this leaves me with a card with nothing on it.
Any suggestions for a workaround for this? Can new vocal commands be programmed into the unit, i.e., "Set source to Off"? I have taken the first steps to getting a knob big enough to turn the sound down manually, but a voice command would be nice, so that the sound level does not need to be reset each time.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions that you may have.
