Z120BT Re-Booting?

Hello:

I am on day 2 since putting everything back together on my install of a new Z120BT, PAC SW-ips, PAC backup camera, Sirius SCC1 and Scosche FDSR in a 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with existing factory Sub.

I lOVE everything about the system! Backup camera, NAV guidance, Sirius etc etc.

However, I took a 2 hour drive today and the unit will 'power-down' for no apparent reason and will then promptly reboot itself going to the Splash screen and then re-establishing bluetooth etc. What would cause this? It seems to do it about every 15-20 minutes, almost on cue. When unit reboots it does resume playing same source and will also resume the NAV guidance if it was active pre-shutddown.

Could this really be a power connection problem? I did the install myyself, made very good crimped/sealed connections and everything was grounded. I also did the 'famous' mute wire bypass.

Thanks for any clues? Should I contact Pioneer? The unit IS under warranty.

Regards, B3

Do you have HID head lights on your car and are they powered on when this happens?

Hi VBLUE42:

NO, I don't have HID headlamps. BTW, truck did this with headlights on and with them off.

This is not terribly troubling since the system reboots so quickly and because it resumes the same settings as pre-power down, however, it also cannot be normal?

Open to any suggestions?

Thanks, B3

It does appear to be power consumption related. Did you mention you had some sort of relay installed? Is the relay wired straight to your battery?

Not sure I follow you on relay? Are you refering to the Scosche "FDSR"? If so, that part is a 3 plug harness that I wired to the Pioneer harness so I wouldn't have to splice into my factory Ford harness.

As I use the system, I am actually going to start timing the intervals of the reboot, from casual impression, it does appear very cyclical. Perhaps I should also consult Pioneer and/or Scosche?

Again, the whole setup is better than expected apart from this booting gremlin!

Thanks, B3
