I thought I would start a new post detailing my installation of the AVIC-Z1.

I received most of my components today:

AVIC Z1 (Mfg December 2006)

ND-BT1 Bluetooth Adapter

CD-iB100ii Ipod Control Interface

ND-BC1 - Rear Camera (not here just yet)

I laid some stuff out on the floor tonight - being that this is my first real car audio installation effort - to try to piece some things together. I have to say that all of the wires when I opened the boxes scared the poo out of me, but I'm coming around.

I received the wiring harness from Crutchfield, and pre-matched everything. I will crimp / solder tonight. Does anyone have a preference as to which I should do?

Here it is:

I take it I screw the black ground wire from the Pioneer connector to the chassis, and place the black ground wire from the Crutchfield harness with it. The green, long wire connects to the parking brake wire in my truck. I think, however, that a "bypass" comes into play here? Somehow I ground that wire? I've read avic411 on the bypass procedure - but it's not real clear. Could any of you lend any thoughts?

Here are the other "wires" I have to negotiate:

I will connect the sub-woofer connection from the CF harness to the RCA outputs from the AVIC (far left), do I do anything with the two blue wires on the CF harness?

The second from the left will accept my rear camera input. I don't think I need anything else on this connection - but please do correct me if I'm wrong.

The remaining wires will be connected to the speed sensor and reverse light? I think that's correct - but not 100% sure thus far. Still more reading to do.

Anyway - that's it for now. Going to home depot to get some crimps and a solder iron, just in case one of you suggest that I connect the wires that way!

Very sorry if this seems elementary to a lot of you - but I thought it could help others out just starting out with this stuff!

HA! What a useful post! I cant believe I didnt run across that - I've been reading for days. That sounds like what I'm about to go through in the next few...

Looks like you might have been the fellow who pulled him through?

I have the same post going on f150online as well - figured what the h***.

OK - wired the CF and Pioneer Harness together. Am I on the right track?

Next task is to start exploring behind the dash cover...

Also - I guess I can go ahead and do part of the bypass now? Take the cell phone mute wire, plug it into the correct slot on the harness, then ground the parking brake wire at the time of install?

If you have a subwoofer in your truck, you will need a voltage regulator for the enable wire. The Z1 sends out 12 volts. Your amp wants to see 5 volts. It will pop really bad on you if you don't use that.

If your truck has park assist (back up warning sensors) hook your cell mute wire to the wire coming from that. That will mute your Z1 just like the factory radio when they go off.

I don't know if it was mentioned, but the VSS signal SHOULD be a grey wire with black stripe at the radio. However, somewhere along the line, Ford started putting in on a CAN bus. You're screwed if that's the case and you must capture the signal prior to the ECM.
