I've inadvertently placed a 'pin' icon at several points on regular routes I travel. How can I remove this? And also, what exactly is it and it's purpose?

Those are favorites registrations. And it takes at least two or more button pushes to register them so I don't know how anyone would do this inadvertently. Regardless, go to DESTINATION, FAVORITES, and delete them.
