Greetings.

Just thread jacked someone elses post so I thought I better start my own...sorry :)

I just purchased a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L minus the NAV/DVD. Since I don't care much about DVD movie capability, I am looking into the AVIC D1 series GPS.

Anybody familiar with:

1) the best place/price to purchase?

2) Installation in the Pilot~ any concerns? (I'll install it myself)

3) The adapter for steering wheel controls~where to purchase and how to install?

...did I miss anything?

Thanks in advance.

First thing newbie, use a subject line that indicates your specific problem (i.e. Honda Pilot install quesitons...)

Ok, I also have a Pilot LX. There's no double din dash kit available yet. You'll have to go custom. The angle of the dash also presents a glare problem. Thus I'm using a flip out screen, which has adjustable angle controls.

Itchy,

Subject line, indicate, specifics...got it.

No Double Din Dash Kit??? What do you mean? Are you referring to the face plate or the actual mounting kit? I would assume a universal mounting kit comes with the Avic?

If it's the face plate, I believe the 2007 Pilot's don't need one...Of course I could be wrong.

there is a double din dash kit for the pilot, its the same as 06 its called the factory brackets, and then you simply take the trim ring for the unit and grind it down slightly. The radio doesnt mount to the stock holes in the stock brackets, you have to move it up slightly to where the little dimples are in the brackets ( youll understand once you see the bracket). the steering wheel control is the swi-ps, and installs the same as the 06, and works fully.

And this would be an installer talking to you. not too many people realize that factory brackets on a stock radio can be reused.

i just got the AVIC-D1 in my 03 pilot yesterday, you can use the same factory bracket, only thing you have to do is drill a nipple out, you will see this nipple once you unscrew the bracket out of the factory unit, it should fit very nice to you factory screw on the dash, only trouble is the trim ring will not fit at all, too big and litle bit short on both side, need to be custom make.

yes, exactly how i said on the brackets. for the trim ring, you have to grind it down on the top and bottom about a total of a 1/4 or so. by drilling out the nipple you move the hu in such a way that the trim ring will fit if filed down.
