Activating Voice Recognition on Australian AVIC F20BT (= X920BT US Model)

Pioneer Australia has not implemented voice commands on our AVIC F20BT (= X920BT US model) - The button is there but the function isn't implemented - anyone know how to make these work for us? Can I download the UK firmware update and make it work, or will that screw everything up? Will all my maps end up being for Scunthorpe instead of Sydney?

This has been asked a hundred times and the answer is always the same. Its not possible with units outside of the US.

Shame... thanks anyway bud - sorry for being such a noob, was hoping things might be different as the F20BT has VR on European units:
