Hey guys, so it was the big day of christmas today and i got the GEX-P920XM for my Avic F90BT. Seems like a pretty simple install, plug and play cables. Except i have a few questions, where can i tap the yellow power cord into. Also, anyone with a mustang (2007) have a suggestion on where to mount or place the GEX-P920XM box? And as far as the antenna goes, the one for my GPS is mounted on the front of my roof, so i was planning on running this XM antenna either to my trunk lid or the rear of my roof. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks Guys!

I have a 2007 Mustang.

Run the yellow to constant power, it's easy to just tap into the stereo harness.

I put my XM antenna on the rear of the roof, running the wire down the rear window channel and into the trunk.

The XM tuner can go anywhere really; under the AVIC, behind the glovebox, under a seat, or under the back shelf. There should be plenty of cable no matter where you want to put it.

I have my antenna attached to the rear trunk lid where it meets the rear window. I have my tuner under the rear seat cushion.

if your going to place the antenna onto either the roof or the trunk lid, may i reccomend that you place a very small piece of double sticky tape under the antenna, other wise the antenna will slide around a little leaving small scratches under it (too much tape will pull the seal off of the antenna when you go to remove it(if taped down, always use a little twisting motion when removing the antenna))

Well, the two sided tape question is interesting for the antenna. When I had my HU professionally installed, they placed the antenna on the front dash right side. Looks OK there, but I am having reception issues even with nothing around. I asked them to place on the roof above the rear window. They told me that they dont like doing that because car washes rip them off.

Now although I am an admitted lazy ba$tard, I am not against hand washing. However, Like yesterday, it was -10 out. I can go for awhile with a dirty car, but really need to get the salt and grime off in a reasonable amount of time when weather is crap. A good car wash is my only option.

If I dont plan on removing the antenna, wouldnt loading up on a good two sided tape protect me? You know, "the bigger the glob, the better the job" type of mentality. I dont want to completely destroy the paint, but I dont want something that will let go after only a few months. What is out there that is water proof and wont get soft in the summer sun or winter deep freeze and lose its grip.

Should I just suck up the "No Signal" sound of defeat and accept what I have?

Thoughts?

A car wash won't rip them off, the shop is just being lazy. The magnets in those antennas are VERY strong.

the antenna's themselves are very small, its really hard for something to hit it and rip it off (there would be so much factory stuff that would also get knocked off in carwashes)

in my professional opinion, a sat antenna should never be placed inside of the car, look at it this way, most factory nav systems have the antenna internally mounted and most of the time its under the dash, however i have never seen a factory sat antenna mounted anywhere but on top of the car.

there is no way in hell i would "just deal' with my XM cutting in and out all the time, the whole point of sat radio, is so that you always have it and it never goes out.
