Nav on X920BT

Hey guys- noobie here and search is down for some reason.

We are picking up a new vehicle this weekend and it does not have nav or bluetooth. Over the years lurking in several auto forums, the Avic series always gets a good nod. I've looked around and it seems the X920BT is affordable for our needs. Ideally, I'm looking for nav, bt, option to add rear cam, and a double din..dont care so much for dvd as we will be adding rear dvd's at some point, but not yet.

question is this- on current vehicles we have factory nav. biggest gripe over price is the dang updates- the update for the honda is like $299. I thought i had read somewhere that the x920bt can update the maps via sd or something?

Can anyone fill me in on this? really this is the wifes only holdout-

and i assume the other things above (bt, rear cam, etc) can be added with no issues (have to read up some more).

Any help would be great on the nav..

Thanks!

Chris

Map upgrades are released once a year and cost about 120-150. The first upgrade will be released sometime in the spring for this unit. If you are purchasing this unit for nav alone however, you might want to search te forums for opinions on these units as competent nav units. It's not the best by any means.

its also not the worse, and if found online for the right price, it can be one of the better values.

however if the nav is the most important feature, then i might also consider kenwood. the audio and video side are really its strongest points, and if you arte looking to add rear screens for the kids, then you really SHOULD consider a unit like this that does have built in DVD, to make it much easier to control it for the kids, it can be a real pain in the ass to try to put in a disc or start a movie if the player is hard to access for the adults in the front seats, also you can start movies saved on to an ipod right from the front touch screen.
