Hey folks first post here,

I bought a 2006 F150 that has an AVIC-N3 in it. The screen does not retract, plus I do not like the pop out screen.

I have done some research and found some reasonably priced double DIN units from Pioneer, like the F700BT. What would be involved in switching the units, would the wiring harness be the same so all I would have to do is mount the unit and plug in a connector and antennas?

Well I ordered the F700BT unit so I will see if it is plug and play.

well the unit will work fine in the car, but its might not n=be as simple as a plug and play, the N series have a separately mounted brain that has to be mounted somewhere (if you where lucky, they mounted in the radio cavity as there is plenty of room there)

remove all of the old parts and wiring, and as long as they didn't F'up you factory wiring when they installed the N, you should be good to go, just wire up the F's wiring harness to the correct ford harness (there should have been one used for the previous install) then get a double din dash kit (the one for the N will be single din)

Thanks for the info.

Plenty of room in the dash. The wiring harness were different so it was not plug-n-play. Wire colors were the same on the harness so that made it easier. I removed the plastic off the end of the factory Sirius antenna and was able to plug that into the F, and mounted the GPS antenna under the plastic dash so now no antennas showing. Took about an hour and it is all good.

Now that I've had it installed for a few days I'm thinking about an upgrade:-)

well if your running the stock system, some of these guys have really figured out this system, and have made so many big changes and little tweaks, that it makes the whole system so much better and easier to use
