A newbie here, just bought a used car and it has the 700bt installed. Being a computer geek, but never owning one of these units, I went to the Pioneer website to make sure the unit had the most current firmware. My unit had the 2.00 firmware and 2007 maps, it had never been updated. Saw that I could download the 2.9 firmware for free, so figured why not? Followed all the instructions from Pioneer, and when the unit finished the updated and rebooted, got a Windows "fatal application error", ezrider program. Crap!

I called the Pioneer support line the next day, and was told I would have to send the unit in for repair. You've got to be kidding me! It was there own damn update. Argued with them to no avail. I decided to take a trip to the local company here in Tucson that originally installed the unit and see what they said. Same story, send the unit back to Pioneer, wait two weeks, $200 later get the unit back. Crap! Crap!

Did some exploring in the Net, found this forum. After many hours of reading and downloading, got the backup files for my 700bt downloaded, booted into Testmode, replaced all the files in My Flash Disk, rebooted and everything back to normal. Awesome!!

Now that I've done that, I still want to upgrade my firmware but am NOT going to use the one from Pioneer. Reading this forum, I see that I can upgrade to at least some version of 3.0?

Question-

Does changing the firmware wipe out any previous mods? What is the most current version?

Thanks for all the help everyone!
