Ok, after about a year, one day I come to my car to get my sunglasses and I found it with smashed window and turn-up dash with stolen Z120 that loved….

Well, I think insurance will going to take care of everything for me but I had two questions

1) How does it work can I just get a check for the replacement unit ? (Maybe I want to get a different one.)

2) Is there a security kit for units like this that we can buy? I do remember back in a day there where such a cases with a handle which it would slide in and out easily so you could take the unit with you. I can’t find anything on the internet.

I also attached couple of pictures too….

The z120bt should have an antitheft password, however that will not bring the radio back, I don't understand why pioneer doesn't make the LCD screen detachable, that's what held me back from buying z120 and now z130, as of insurrance I don't know how it works as I don't have such coverage, I pay only $27/month for my car insurrance LOL.

Woah, they went to town on that car. The only real security feature is the password protection you can enable. It won't keep it from being stolen, but it gives you satisfaction knowing they cant' use it.

The insurance company should give you a check for the value of a new AVIC.

you could use Allen or Torx bolts. that would keep them from being able to rip it out. but if that was the case they probably just damage your deck trying to get it out. Plan C is the best. leave a box of thumb tacks

on your seat.

If a GPS can tell you where your at..... Why can't it be tracked? Should be able to pin point it.

lol...no. GPS is passive. GPS Trackers on the other hand are active devices that transmit their GPS location via radio, cellular, or other methods.

Oh. When you say "passive" makes me think the GPS can only see signal, but can't admit signal. But GPS has to be able to admit signal to get location. So I'm still confused. Do all GPS units have no individual signature when it's working?

GPS navigation devices are passive and do not emit a signal of any kind.

GPS tracking devices, take the regular (passively obtained) GPS data and transmit it (via a transmitter/transceiver) to it's monitoring service.

wOw.............

this is why i am afraid to install my Z120

my project

i am currently in the process of ordering 2 part foam to make a dash cover for my z120, the cover will look like a stock radio.

lol only made it as far as ordering the 2 part foam, looking on how to harden the foam.

Probably fiberglass

my goal with this project is to create a cover for the z120 that will make it look like a stock radio if any one know of any better way to go about this please let me know

Dummy Stock Headunit Faceplate

this is what i would like to create

My back windshield was broken out a couple months ago in a parking deck. Luckly they didnt get inside far enough to get my headunit. I immediately scoured craigslist. Picked up a $15 Ford Ranger radio, ripped it apart, glued the faceplate together and presto...perfect fit. Now whenever i am parked it is second nature to put the cover on. Makes it look like a piece of crap stocker.

Were you able to pursue anything with the blood evidence?

Posted Jun 06, 2011 · 13:23 UTC#17

Well I couldn’t pursue anything with the blood evidence since it was in private property and we all know police would of laughed at me to send a blood to lab for DNA testing specially for a radio theft ( a very nice radio theft) when there is a lot going on out there and probably the labs are backed up and behind too. But here is the good news, out of all this I did get a brand-new AVIC-Z130 and a brand-new dashboard (I had to through hell with my insurance company to get that) the car still is in the shop waiting for the dash to arrive and hopefully I’ll get my car sometime this week or the next but this time I’m improving my security system.

what type of security are you willing to improve???????

to anyone out there

i live in NYC and and i drive a jeep grand Cherokee.i had 3 month with a z120bt with no problems. in April and may i have had 3 broken windows and 2 attempts on the head unit (thanks to my neighbors for there laud mouth lol. i decided to reinstall the stock radio, but n ow i am tire of using my phone and the stock radio unit when i have a good unit in the closet. my question...............do any one know of any shop in NYC (Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn)that would do a costume part to make the z120bt look like a stock radio? or a faceplate (i know the thief is scoping out my jeep and would make another attempt )

the face plate that i bought looks fake (ebay)

or if any one would or willing to create a good enough looking faceplate for this unit.

I already have the viper 2way security alarm but that it is useless if the remote is out of range and the thief is disconnecting the car battery so the improvements that I’m going to do is to use my old radio face and somehow make the AVIC go farther back so when I’m not in my car I can use the dummy radio face to cover it ( that is my main and the most important security measure ) second I’m going to improve the alarm system by installing the glass breaking sensor as well as backup battery but here where I can’t make a decision. I have found this locking system that it will lock the hood of your car and the only way you be able to open the hood is to use the key and unlock it, if I get that and install it easily I don’t think I’m going with the backup battery!

Got this idea off of another forum. Works like a charm and fits perfectly. Picked a Ranger stock radio up off of craigslist for $15.

How to make a decoy cover for your navigation unit (with pics)

Car radio manifacturers don't get it, they know that the code security system being failing for years but they still make them; where they can just make the face plate detachable, it doesn't add much to the cost of the radio, I guess they want the radio to be stollen so they can sell another one.
