I just installed my D1 last week and love it, got the bypass mod working fine. Sometimes (not often) when I'm drving, the indicator shows I'm going backwards. I figured it is part of the GPS learning am I right? Do I possibly have the reverse wire not connected properly? I have the VSS wire hooked up.

the reverse wire is thought to only trigger the rear view. I dont think it has much to do with the indicator showing reverse motion. the sat part probably does that. You are probably right with the learning thing. see how it reacts in another week or so. enjoy

I thought I read somewhere that the reverse input to the AVIC has something to do with the arrow direction. Not 100% sure, but I think I saw that somewhere.

Yeah, i know of installations where the reverse is never installed and the system functions just fine. forward and reverse.

I haven't had any problems with the few that I did not use the reverse wire input, so I guess it doesn't matter.
