Question about powering back up camera

Hi everybody, this is my first post, just wanted to say hello first, and also I have a question regarding back up camera install. I just got an AVIC-F90BT and am getting a cheap ebay back up camera. My understanding on how to wire and have the whenever on feature is to run the reverse gear wire to the reverse lights in the back of the car, and run the camer's power to the (RED) switched power on the head unit. I have read that those definitely work, now I have two questions.

can I throw a switch between the camera power wire and the (RED) switched wire of the head unit?

if I am not in reverse, will the head unit know that there is a video input if the reverse gear wire is not getting power from the reverse lights (meaning would I be able to switch to the camera input manually)?

thanks so much, look forward to hearing back soon.

The head unit has a feature to allow rear view without a switch. No switch is necessary.

i figured it would be best to have a switch so that the rear camera would not be on all the time when my car is on? is that correct? thanks so much, i appreciate it

oh and one more questions, I've read from numerous forums that the camera's power source should be the red switched wire of the head unit, but why could it not be the amp on blue/white stripe wire? thanks again

Any 12 volt power wire will do. The typical wire used is the 12 volt red wire. Also I have had my camera wired this way for going on four years now and have had no problems. A switch can be used but is completely unnecessary. I guess if you are going to go with an eBay purchased camera though you will need all the redundant help possible sense most cameras purchased on eBay are complete garbage. But again, a switch is not necessary.

cool, thanks for your help, I'll be trying the install in about 2 weeks when everything gets here, i bought the f90bt used, so the owner didn't have the gps antenna or bluetooth mic, so i'm waiting for all that to come in so i can redo the install, I already installed the head unit, and everything seems to work
