First let me say this is one of the best forums I’ve ever been too.

I am looking into getting a AVIC-Z1 for my 2002 Highlander.. I have regular radio non JBL. I was wondering if the unit would fit flush or would I have spaces on the sides etc... I know some people had them installed on 05-06 highlanders which I believe the dashes are a bit different. If anyone has any info or pics I would appreciate it.

The dash is the same. what you'll need to install the z1 is a 70-1761 (wire harness). And to keep from having a gap on either side of the radio a 95-8202 (dash kit). Once you have those, the install is pretty easy.

On page 5 of that manual you'll see how to take out the radio in your car. Once you get the radio out page 14 will tell you how to assemble the kit.

Here's vss and reverse too.

Speed Sense wht/red or pur/wht 28 pin plug, pin 22 @ ECM

Notes: The ECM (Engine Control Module) is behind the glove box, it is the module to the left.

Reverse Light red/black to pink + driver kick, 14 pin plug, pin 10

Hi, new visitor here. I have a '02 highlander and this thread appears to answer the questions I would have but the link does not appear to be working anymore. Is there another link someplace for this PDF?

Thanks

I had my avic-z2 installed for soem time now but the AVIC says its getting a "irregular speed signal" I have the VSS wire tapped into the WHT/RED wire at ECM. i could not find a purp/wht wire anywhere.

Any thoughts? I have a 2002 4cyl Highlander

Wrong wire or bad connection, I've done avics in highlanders and never had a problem with vss reading irregular speed pulse.

I had it connected to the WHT/RED wire on the EMC lowest block(E9 on attachment). Ive connected and reconnected to wire a few times already and still get the same error. [/img]
