AUX AUDIO - help

i had a d2 profesionally installed in my vw passat. only other "accessories" i have, are a jl stealthbox sub and a pioneer 12 disc changer.

i recently decided to make an aux input port on an empty dash piece. so i bought a 2 rca male to 1 3.5mm female cable. i secured the 3.5mm side on the dash, and connected to rca end to another set of rca's from the headunit. those wires had a sticker "AUDIO INPUT"

yet when i try accessing the aux in the audio sources, it's grey'd out and will not let me choose it. am i doing something wrong?

i could be wrong but i think you need to enable the a/v source in the setup screen.

what do you mean by enable? when i'm at the source screen and i see a list of sources, the aux icon (has rca plugs as icon) is grey'd out.

You need to go into your setup menu, and turn on your aux input.

what he said

thanks guys, will give it a try after work.

Turn off the avic. Push in on the joystick button. Then the option you want is in the initial menu. Then turn the aux on the button all the way to the left where it says "aux off". Hit it and it should say "aux on"

You mean the joystick thingy, not the source button

Yeah I hit post just as I noticed that. All better now.

Isn't what he wants the AV input, not aux?

I have an adapter going into the IP-bus that hooks my MP3 player into the AUX (and had to turn it on as you said). But wouldn't hookups into the AV inputs require source to be set to AV? Would also require setting AV source to on?

Just a thought.

the input is the one you have to enable. as described previously

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 14:14 UTC#12

The AV input is on the back of the AVIC, the rca's back there, whereas the AUX input will be on the IP-bus input, along with EXT-1 and EXT-2.

i was clear until h3 posted but am now confused.

did i do something wrong?

i bought a wire with 3.5mm female plug on 1 end, and 2 rca male on the other end. i plugged the rca side into the back of the avic, where there were 2 rca females (with a sticker labeled audio input).

on the 3.5mm side, i will connect it to my mp3 player.

how do i get this to work? do i go into the initial screen and enable aux?

or is aux and av "different"?

Turn on your A/V input, your audio will come in through that.

Posted Jan 24, 2007 · 22:40 UTC#15

probably go with what you know and what has been told to you to do would work best

Sorry if my post confused you. I think what tillithz is trying to say with this (and other) cryptic post is go back to his(?) original post that said turn on the A/V input. Not the AUX input.

Same thing I said, but I think I gave a bit too much information.

thanks, will do!

btw, love your sig. i think the newest sti is by far the best looking one. i'm not sure if you have any performance mods, but stock with just good audio/radar setup is pretty nice too.

only have the rx65 but does the laser blocking really work???

Posted Jan 25, 2007 · 15:41 UTC#18

ty ty, havent had a chance to 'test' the blocking, but by all reports it should. ironically i wont be driving as much as i use to, so i wont even be needing the rx75. ahh well, you live and learn

ok, so here's my update.

pull the hu out and i see 3 sets of rca plugs.

with aux "enabled", i try the first set of plugs which has a sticker around the wire "audio inputs." turn on mp3 player, nothing.

so i try 2nd set of plugs, i hear faint sound, but ONLY from rear speakers. figure, that's strange but i go ahead and try the 3rd set of plugs.

on the 3rd set, i get full (louder) sound from the front, but fronts ONLY.

so my question, what am i doing wrong? was my hu wired up incorrectly b/c it seems like i can only get my aux input to either come out either through fronts or rears only, not both. if i try one front, and one rear plug, then only 1 side of the front comes out, and only 1 side of the rear comes out (duH!). and the rears are always much fainter than the fronts.

fyi this was installed on a 04 vw passat sedan (comes with monsoon amp/speaker setup). i also have a jl sub hooked upto to sub output, and pioneer 12disc changer via ip-bus cable.

Yes I can help. The rcas have to be plugged into the av input on the d1. THen you'd do as jimmy303 said and turn on the a/v input. Since you have a changer in there your only option without buying more expesive parts is the a/vinput.

ok sounds easy enough to do. connect back to audio input rcas, enable av in setup screen. will try again after work... but with this will i get sound from all speakers?
