What I did and what I think.
What I did. I bought the 2010 update for my AVIC-F700BT. I installed it and it bricked my unit. I called Pioneer and their tech could not help me. He passed me off to the repair/warranty department and they recommended I send it in. I sent it with the update along with all paper work for the update to show it was legit and I had the web generated key. They emailed me after they had my unit and wanted me to send them $240. I called them with the repair order number they gave me and talked to a repair rep and told him it was their update that bricked my radio. He would not budge. I told him to send me the radio back. I bought off ebay a factory refurb that had not yet been installed by the owner so it was like new for less than the repair cost but it has not been updated.
What I think. I think I can still use the update I paid $120 for on the new radio. Here is why. You put the SD card in the radio to get the device number. You get on the web site and enter the device number along with the SD serial number and they generate a key that registers your device number along with the SD serial number. This registers the device with the SD card along with their key so that if you would send the unit in for repair they would be able to tell if the update was shared and legal to use in the unit it was installed in.
Does this make sense? Am I thinking too hard? My head hurts after all this....
