The Avic D2 and D3 need a DVD for navigation. Is the DVD for addresses only meaning if you dont have the DVD in you can still have a map of where you are just not have a destination put in?

correct, like the n3

The CD is for music. The D2 has a memory that will store a limited area of maps and POI.

It will most likely zoom way out when you remove the disk too

My N3 didn't require you to zoom out, it stayed the same with/without the dvd.

It doesn't require you to, it does it for you. If you do not have a destination entered as the original post mentioned, it will zoom way out

You can specify the area to be stored in memory, and that area will have full resolution and all the POI's and landmarks.

This info will stay in memory after you remove the nav disc.

Only a ten square mile area. Don't know about you, but I never needed navigation when I was so close to home

I guess I just never noticed it since I normally left the nav DVD in the N3 with the XM tuned to SquiZZ XL. :)
