My position is way off from where I'm really at ,I've see some threads about this but never a clear answer... can't anyone point me in a good direction please?! thanks

make sure that your antenna has a perfect view of the sky and nothing is blocking it, also make sure that the VSS is hooked up and reset the learning process.
if these are both good to go, then there may be a problem with you unit.
