I currently have a Z3 HD installed in my Z2. I think my DVD drive may be going out cause It can't read most CDs (bought and burned CDs). I may have to send it in to Pioneer to service. Do I have to put back in the stock HD? If so, will it lock my unit?

Since its out of warranty it should not matter. If you have the stock drive, you might as well put it in.
