Hi. I have 2 F700BT units, one in my wife's car and one in my truck. I have had both for over 2 years and have found that they are basically bricks that sometimes malfunction and become fully working navigation units. I have gotten quite good at re-loading the software. In fact, I have a dedicated SD card with the files I need that is ready to go.
A couple of weeks ago, the unit in my wife's car started doing the famous AVIC perpetual splash screen reboot. I was slow in getting it fixed and this morning it started doing something I have never seen before. When it starts, it doesn't even go to the splash screen, it goes straight to the reset screen. So I think that's perfect because I won't have to hold all four buttons to get it to the same screen. When I start to enter the service code, the screen will go blank each time I make an input. If I hold the knob in the up position, I get the asterisk at the bottom of the screen until I let go and then the screen goes blank for a couple of seconds. When it comes back to the blue reset screen, the asterisk is gone. So I can never enter the code. I get the same result with the four button reset as well. I've checked the wiring and all the voltages. All is well there.
I can't get it to go to test mode either with the SD card installed. I even erased the SD card and reinstalled the files on it. No luck. I have taken the thing apart to see if I can figure out if I can replace the flash drive, but I can't without replacing the navi board for a few hundred bucks. Before I buy a factory radio off eBay and use this AVIC for target practice, I figured I'd ask if anyone here has experienced this and whether they were able to fix it.
Any thoughts?
