I just got the Z140 installed in a BMW X5. So far I like the unit very much.

A couple of features issues I'd like some help with:

1. Can you reprogram the steering wheel control up/down to change stored stations rather than manual frequency change, hitting ^ gives you 92.3, 92.5, 92.7, etc. instead of 92.3 (Channel 1), 94.1 (Channel 2), 99.7 (Channel 3).

2. If you don't have a MODE button on steering wheel control can you reprogram another button. My X5 has a Voice Call button that is not working.

Thanks for any feedback.

1. Yes but you will loose track skip for CD/DVD and iPod sources.

2. Yes if you have the PAC module you can program any function you want to any button you want.

Thanks for reply.

1. So my choices are keep what I have and have manual up/down and CD/DVD/Ipod track up/down or reprogram to have PRESET Up/Down and lose steering wheel control of CD/DVD/ipod track up/down??

I'm trying to make for the best "hands free" experience for my teenage driver. CD/DVD are a non issue because we don't use any in the vehicle. Most time unit is switched from Radio to iPod with some occassional Pandora. The manual up/down for the FM makes the steering wheel control essentially useless because we typically listen to 5 or 6 pre set stations 99% of the time and the manual up/down is just too clumsy while driving. PRESET up/down is what we have in our other vehicles and that is seemless.

2. Yes we bought the PAC Module. Can I find program instructions somewhere to show my installer that this can be done? He was in a hurry and liked saying "it can't be done" I think just to keep from having to figure out how to do it. The steering wheel had a mic/voice command button that was not connected to anything. Seems perfect for use as MODE button. Scrolling on the screen is a bit clumsy also.

1. Yes. Try this, decide weather track skip up or down is the priority for the iPod. I would suspect most people if they had to sacrifice one for the other they would keep track skip up before back skip but thats just me. Keep track skip up for CD/DVD and iPod and program what would be track skip down to preset skip up or down. If at some point you need to go the other way you can use the screen for the occasional other direction. If it were me that is what I would try. I usually only skip to next track on iPod or next station on radio presets.

2. PAC website. And it can be done.
