I can't be accused of not searching for this.

Does anyone know if there is a maximum number of songs for folders on the z120bt? I have a 32GB SD card I'll filling with songs, but I'd like to cut this off before I go through the effort of doing this.

Yes. Try searching for "maximum". Max is not a word. It is in the manual too (Appendix - Media compatability chart, pg 208) . Get the pdf file loaded on your computer so you can search it. You'd also see that the maximum supported capacity of an SDHC card is 16GB (pg 225). Might work, might not. But you'll not likely get to use all that capacity due to the 2500 file limit.

I thought about searching for maximum... but I'd never type the entire word out myself, so I wouldn't expect most ppl to either. Either way, thanks.

These limits are so stupid. I don't get what the engineers at Pioneer are thinking half the time. The SDHC spec (and FAT32) is limited to 32GB. Why would they make the limit 16? Is it 2500 song across the entire card or 2500 per folder?

It's no wonder I got the response I did when I asked if they'd ever support exFAT. They haven't even fully supported FAT32 & SDHC yet.

My phone has a 32GB memory card...

They must have quite a deal with Apple. I've never seen a company try so hard to push you to use another company's product.

Has nothing to do with any deal from Apple.

Then why the limits? Why the need for an iPhone for most of these features? Why no apps for Android? Why the lack of Bluetooth controls (play and pause only, and no info displayed)? Yet it has full control for iPhone.

Benn discussed many times in many threads per issue. The limitations are all for very good reasons and none of the reasons has to do with any pro Apple train of thought.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm sure there's a valid reason. All I'm saying is my phone which cost many times less, does not have the same unlimited power for processing, and has an exponentially smaller frame in which to do its work, does not have the same limitations.

Completely different device and not comparable at all. You compare Apples to Oranges.

Not at all. They're both computers. They may be in different packages, but a computer is a computer. They may have different software compatibilities, but in the end a computer is a computer. In fact, its likely an Android smartphone could run the entire system of one of these units, and do it better. Clarion has at least realized this, but I have the feeling they will limit the system too much to fully take advantage of its possibilities.

I use a 32gb card that currently has 27gb used by 2200 songs, 90 music videos, 30 misc short video and 11 full movies. Everything is well organized and easy to find to listen/watch. At 4 min a song that over 6 days of music without a song repeat... throw in the videos and movies it's 7+ days before anything would repeat.

I'm not a fan of the 2500/350 limit but that said I make it work and I haven't seen a better option than Pioneer for a car stereo. Anyone have a better suggestion for a car stereo than the unit Pioneer built?

There is no perfect device out there I've seen... while many pray at the alter of Apple my iphone has as many if not more stupid limits for no reason than my truck stereo.

lol.. and that's why I use Android and not iPhone... I was once an iOS owner...

But it looks like to get what I really want from my radio I need to purchase (unnecessary expense imo) an iPod Touch. Might as well get the 64GB if I'm going to do it though. I have over 100GB of songs in my collection, but if I have to narrow it down, better 64GB than 16 or 32... waaay better than the 2500 song limit. It's not that I want to have enough songs to go days without repeating... it's that I want to be able to pull up any song that comes to mind that I want to hear there on the spot. At the moment I can get around that using Audiogalaxy, and to be honest I could stick with that method 100% if the bluetooth had better controls and interface. That's why I believe Android hitting car radios is the best thing to happen since MP3's.

I just recently did the upgrade to 3.22 which finally gave me the ability to switch tracks from the radio. I really hope Pioneer eventually tests the Android waters. I prefer their hardware over Clarion.

They do make 160GB iPods you know.

The new x940bt has Android support. Are you talking something different like actually running an Android OS for the radio?

I know, I bought my dad one from his father's day present last year. However, if I'm going to be spending money, I want all those other iOS dependent features my radio offers I can't use. Like Pandora Interface & Music Sphere.

Yes, the new Clarion will run an Android OS. It's an idea I said should have been done nearly two years ago.. If I was rich, I'd have one on the market already... I believe in the possibilities that much. Honestly, I dont believe Clarion pushes the envelope enough with it, but hopefully the first wont be the last. My idea was to have a built in GSM 4G radio. That way, your navigation could be Google Maps. Instead of simply saying you've reached your destination, it shows a photo of your destination like my phone does. You can use other mapping software like Waze. It would have a WiFi radio and like your Android phone, it would supply WiFi access to the entire vehicle. I could go on, but you get the idea.

You are going to waiting quite a while if you expect a head unit manufacture to satisfy your needs. Why not just go with an in-dash installed Android tablet and be done. That is what I have been doing with the iPad for a year now and have no limitations. It is so nice to not be disappointed year after year by the meager offerings of these head unit manufactures.

I wont go as far as to have a tablet in my dash. But I don't think I'm asking too much to have a head unit with what should be standard features in these days. The ability to load up to a 32GB memory device on each USB / SD port, virtually unlimited folders and files, the ability to scroll through a list using a scroll bar and letters, and the ability for Bluetooth to take full advantage of what bluetooth can do now. My $60 bluetooth headphones shouldn't be more feature filled than my $1200 radio.

But they do seem to be very complacent where they are now. I wish I could produce my idea, because I could catch them all napping, and make them decide they need to wake up, or take the market as my own.

Why not, its practically the same money and would completely suit your needs.

Thats the problem with these companies. There is no inovation and no desire to rise above the status quo. What needs to happen is a company like Apple to move into this category. This is what Apple does. They take a stagnant product and make it better and make it work. Honestly I pretty much have that though with the ipad. But I bet you would start to see these companies actually innovate if that happend.

I thought of that too... unfortunately the name iRadio is taken. I thought to myself if I had the money to make this happen, I'd probably try to have a version of both. an Android based version and an iOS based version. The problem is, Apple doesn't license its software, and I don't see them getting into an area where they wont be able to sell mass amounts of apps.

Are these folder/file limits still in effect on the z130bt 3.001?

I'm getting ready to buy an SD card and would like to know if I can get a larger capacity SD or will have to split my files between SD and USB.

Thanks.  John

** Update **

Never mind -- I just checked today and it looks like the limit is still there.   I created three folders, each with 1000 small MP3s in it.  The first two folders displayed all 1000 files, but the third folder showed only 500 files.

Is the limit because the AVIC is caching the file/folder structure in memory?  Other than lack of physical ram in the machine, it seems rather arbitrary to restrict file count in light of current technology's extra large flash memory devices.  With 250kbps mp3 format I am getting around 3000 files in a 16GB flash.
