Rear View Camera only works with FM radio

This issue is puzzling and I haven't been able to find anywhere what the problem may be. I got the unit 'professionally' installed and the guy told me that he didn't know what the issue was.

Basically, the camera would only work if I am listening to FM Radio. If I am listening to XM, AM radio, a CD, or the Library, the screen would just be all black. It looks like it tries to connect to the camera because it goes to the camera mode and it shows the CAUTION message but it is pitch black. On the other hand, the camera works perfectly if listening to FM radio. This applies to the split screen (map and camera) and when backing up.

Obviously, I went back to the store and ask them to fix this issue (right now, it virtually is like not having a camera at all since I don't listen to FM and I am not going to switch the audio mode when I back up). I am going to take my car to a different location and see if anybody more knowledgeable knows what the issue is. Has anybody heard about this issue? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

slight chance that the remote of the avic unit is powering the camera? thats what it sounds like, but not sure if the remote puts out enough to run the camera or not.

I think what tillithz is thinking of (which I'm amazed it would be hooked up this way) is the power antenna lead being the power for your camera. It's possible... if it is I would like to slap the installer :)

Go to page 156 and you can see this:

Switching the auto antenna setting

If the blue lead of the navigation system is connected

to the auto antenna of the vehicle, select

either of the following settings.

• Radio — Extends the antenna only for the FM

or AM source. The antenna is stored when the

source is switched to another.

• Power — Extends the antenna when the ignition

switch is turned on. The antenna is stored

when the ignition switch is turned off.

1 Touch [Auto ANT] in the System Settings.

Touching [Auto ANT] switches between

[Radio] and [Power].

❒ Regardless of whether [Radio] or [Power]

is selected, turning off the ignition switch

will cause the antenna to automatically

retract.

Try going to any AV screen, and go to the AV settings. Then go to the system settings and see if that's set to RADIO. If so, hit it and change it to POWER and see if the backup camera works all the time now.

If so, you could leave it on there, but as tillithz said it's important to know that it doesn't need more power than the power antenna out can supply. It as well as the amp power (remote turn on) can only supply 300mA. If it's a Pioneer ND-BC1 it's max current draw is 130mA so you are ok if you have that. If you have something else, you might want to double check that.

might want to have it 'fixed' if it is that, I say 'fixed' because its debatable on if its broken persay.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will let you know what I find. I am amazed about how much you guys know about this unit! Thanks!

You guys were right. The original installer connected the wire to the power antenna! Now that it is hooked up correctly the camera works great! Thanks for all your help!
