I was wondering how you determine whether your getting adequate GPS signal strength. My gps seems to be working fine, but when I go into the connections status I am only getting between 6-7 satellites. On the green strength meter I usually get 1 or 2 bars, but sometimes none. My installer mounted the antenna on the back deck but just velcroed it there. I asked him about that metal plate and he said the he looked but couldn't find it in the box. Do you think the metal plate would improve the signal? Anyone know if it is possible to get another from Pioneer?
GPS signal strength
yes the plate would improve that is its purpose. maybe move it to the font where you may have some metal would help
You are probably better off having it mounted to some metal support brackets under the rear deck. A buddy of mine did this and his signal quality is excellent.
I did some tests with the included metal "foil" and it's not as good as some heavier gage sheet metal.
I'll probably try to do this myslef this afternoon. I think there are a few places under the rear deck to place this. Is the antenna magentic? If not how would you suggest I mount it to the bracket? Does it have to be pointing up or can it be mounted on the side?
it is magnetic, i would say point it with the wire facing forward or reverse, but it likely doesnt matter.
