As everybody has probably heard by now IOS6 coming this Fall gets rid of Google Maps ..

The Big question now is Where Does Pioneer go with this ?

Will they integrate the new Apple Maps into Appradio 1 & 2 .......

Also will the New Apple Iphone 5 be compatible with the Appradio's ?

I just can say that pioneer France facebook admin page is totally quiet since 3 weeks...

if google maps works, seems to be great....but google maps run via data transfert...if you go abroad, that would cost too much to use it...so have to keep a "standalone" solution in iphone, without using data...

unless i didn't understand all the new ios

From what I understand, Apple actually programmed the maps app for IOS and was just using Google Maps data. With that said, when they port over their own data I'm willing to bet they'll make it compatible.

There is no way to know until it is released but I wouldn't expect an immediate response from Pioneer.

From what I've heard apple have struck a deal with TomTom and all the new iOS 6 map data is being provided by TomTom themselves.

for me, the great thing to do, is to have a basemap in the iphone, that can be updated when data connection available...and if we decided to let it make it available...

imagine you cross the sahara, nevada, desert....

even if there is a "paid" version, sure it would be less expensive as navgate drive ( i hope )

( does navgate drive use the help of gps appradio antena by the way...??? )

we have to consider all that...

Are you forgetting that the iPhone has a GPS receiver. No cell data or very little is used while navigating with iOS for position.

yes VBLUE, you're right about the integrated gps in iphone !!! but maps "native" fonction here in europe, run with data...if no coverage , no maps,; unless i don't know how to use it ( that could be possible that i don't know , really )

i france someone has tried the IOS6 with maps...nothing really extra....hope he's wrong...

I see. Here in the US the maps will work with as little as Edge which is the backup to 3G data and nearly every corner of the US is covered by at least Edge. I would think there is something similar in your country.

For those aching to know...... I just installed my AppRadio 2 with the switch for the bypass. I thought the TR7 bypass was a bit much for my liking. But anyways, I wanted to let you know that not only does maps from iOS 6 work, but it actually displays the same data you would see from the Apple Maps application. It is wicked smooth, and I dare say that iOS 6 makes the whole unit flow more smoothly. I played with one at a Best Buy prior to my upgrade to iOS 6, and it lagged. But applying the recent update to the AppRadio 2, and iOS 6 work very well. And its fully functional too for all other features. As new updates come out, I will do my best to keep everyone updated.

You have the beta iOS6 right? So you're saying the new Maps navi app works flawlessly with the AR2?

I can also confirm that the new iOS6 maps work on the appradio 2. will do vid as soon as i have time.

100% correct! At first I only had a blue dot and thought, damn! the new maps wasnt going to work. Did a hard reset on the phone and then voila! Everything works. I have to say its pretty awesome to see iOS 6 maps on the AppRadio 2. My only wish for a future firmware update is deeper EQ control from the device.

Lets all hope that doesn't change in the various beta updates Apple releases over the next few months before final release.

So I have been playing with the AppRadio 2 for about 24 hours, and here are some of the things I have noticed. All most likely due to the AppRadio app needing an update. Sometimes it will take quitting and reopening the app to get a connection, no need to unplug. NavFree needs an update as I get no touch screen controls when I launch it, and it always comes up in a different spot. Inrix got an update today that fixed the touch options there, yay! Certain apps do not work when jumping to another app. I.E. I have the iRadar, and when I bring that app up, if I am in one on the unit, the screen goes black. the only real inconvenience is seeing I needed to quit and relaunch the AppRadio app a few times.

Navfree works for me without issue. Maybe you should remove the app, restart the iPhone and re-install the app. On a different note, have you tried the AppRadio Extensions?

Good morning, I registered just because of this thread. I recently purchased an AppRadio last Saturday and have been for the most part happy with it. Also being an Apple dev, I updated one of my devices (iPhone 4S) to iOS6 the other day, and my AppRadio has experience has been almost intolerable since, not that I wasn't expecting troubles since it is a beta OS after all.

Here is what I have found so far:

Maps: After using it a lot in the past three days, I can say that it works, but with numerous issues that make it almost unusable in a live, driving environment.

  • Occasional "Failed to Receive a GPS Signal" errors; despite having 8-10 active (orange) satellites.
  • Map scrolling is erratic and jerky, frequently over-scrolls, then abruptly jumps back. Sometimes this smooths out after a few minutes.
  • Location tracking isn't always accurate; sometimes the blue dot will also jump back to a previous point a few pixels from the current location.
  • Pinch to zoom does not work.
  • The scroll slider does not work as expected anymore, sliding it to one side or another only results in a very small change in map zoom level.
  • Maps will sometimes lock up if location tracking is enabled while zooming map view.
  • Frequently stops updating map tiles, requires backing out of map app and going back into it to restart map drawing.

CarMediaPlayer / iPod Audio App: works pretty good still.

  • Metadata (track, title, etc) does not always update to reflect the actual track playing. This has happened twice so far.
  • Next/Previous track presses do not always initiate the action, despite the radio showing the button press.

Pandora: Works great!

Overall:

  • App launching on the iPhone is broken. Most of the time, the AppRadio app will auto launch and connect only the first time after cold-booting the phone. Sometimes it will work for a while (i.e. going to work) but later in the day (after work), fail to connect at all with a black screen until I reboot the phone. Task killing apps on the phone does not fix it.
  • App switching between AppRadio app and CarMediaPlayer no longer works. The apps will switch, but always fail to connect. The work around is to either task-kill the apps, or switch to the home screen, then back into the app on the iPhone, not the radio.

While the list is long, I do not believe the issues are very wide-spread. It would seem that Pioneer needs to update how they work with Apples updated Maps API, and also iron out some app switching issues.

Also, am I the only one wondering where the contacts app is? The box shows an icon for a contacts app, but the only way I can find contacts is to go into the phone menu, and select contacts as an option. Why is there not an icon there?
