Iam going from an 02 impala to an 07. Iam switching everything over. I just dont want to loose all my information I stored. Is there anyone out there with a 06 or 07 impala with the Z1 in it. I wouldnt mind seeing what it would look like before hand.

Don't worry, those guys are pretty much teasing. Just pulling power does "reset" the device in a way, but the Z1 has 4 levels of reset, that's the most minor and you will NOT lose any information. You have to do specific things to tell the Z1 to try to revert back to a more "original" (like you got it from the factory) state. Just removing it and putting it in another vehicle will not lose any information.

And if you want to see what will happen, the little recessed button to the right of the eject button is an easy way of basically pulling power from the unit and then applying it again. So pressing that will be like pulling it out of a car and then putting it back into another one. So press it and see, it turns off and then back on again, but everything will still be there.

The only thing you lose is am/fm/xm presets. The backgrounds may default back to the original settings as well.

I know the backgrounds do not get changed, they backgrounds are saved as specific files on the hard drive. Are you sure about the presets? Seems weird to have a hard drive and store something like this in RAM.

THe ones I've removed ave lost the presets. As for the backgrounds, I wasn't sure I never paid that close attention.
