As topic is marked NEWB DUEL ZONE QUESTION, that means don’t read further unless you’re going to be helpful (and not say use serach these questions have all been asked, IM ASKING a kind soul will answer). NEWB QESTION WARNING!

Ok im about to buy the Z1 I just had a question about duel zone, ok so lets ay I get a generic screen with AV input can my backseat passenger watch a DVD Using the Z1 as a source unit while I use navigation, ipod, radio, or satellite up front. Also it looks like in the diagram the duel zone has its own audio output so does this mean my other backseat passenger can listen to the music playing though the rear speakers (im trying to say I wont lose my rear channel?) also it looks like there’s a AV input to so if I hook up a ps3 or xbox 360 up to the Z1 and use it for video source for the back or front, instead of having it just wired to an AV switcher to the rear screens. Let me know

There is one AV out put to the back passenger. Not one audio and one video they are linked. If your rear monitor has an input for headphones or something that's what the audio component will be.

The rear passengers can view and/or listen to one of these options:

1. They can listen/watch whatever the driver can (mirror of the front)

2. The Z1's internal DVD drive

3. The AV input (ps3, xbox, external dvd drive whatever)

They do not get the possibility to listen to Sat radio while the driver listens to his ipod. The driver can set the front to do anything they want and they also set the rear to be one of those 3 options. If you set to #'s 2 or 3, you can still set the Z1's screen and car's speakers to view the same thing the rear passengers are seeing, but if you switch off that and go to the nav screen they will continue to see #2 or #3 without interruption.

When you are not on Mirror (option 1) I don't know what happens to the rear speakers. My wifes acura kills the rear speakers when there is something difference between the front and back and the rear passengers need to use headphones. But I don't think I ever checked the pioneer.

ok so your saying if there doing anything diff than me the rear chan shuts down.... makes sence so the rears dont over power the headphones, but when in mirror the rear speakers work? so your conferiming the Z1 has AV outputs for rear seat SO video + audio right and left, so ANY tv with AV in will work, cool stuff.

I don't know for sure about the rear audio shutting down automatically. You can of course adjust the balance to the front manually. And my wife's acura (with factory entertainment system does shut down the rear speakers. I wouldn't be surprised if the Z1 did it too. When I was doing the rear monitor test I was in by friends F250 and I don't remember checking the rear speakers vs the front speakers when the rear monitor was something different. I should have but I didn't. And in a vehicle without a rear monitor, the Z1 doesn't know it's not there, you can tell it that it's there and test, but I don't have my vehicle at this time, so I can't even test this.

Yes, and I would say pretty much any will work. It's got 3 RCA jacks just like a DVD player or VCR, yellow for video and red and white for audio left and right and they work just like any standard AV out to any monitor that will take RCA for inputs.

I don't know what that is... I'm MSDN certified! I'm actually a software engineer for a medical device company. But I bought one of these and learned how they work and have a soft spot in my heart for newbies. Or the Avically Challenged.

MECP - Mobile Electronics Certified Professional.

It's a lot like the microsoft cert. 3 different levels. Basic, advanced/first class, and master.

I like avictard better.

mmm 99% of them seem to have build in dvd players with them, defeating the purpose of this application..... seems ill be doing this unit http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... ctID=16966 even has a video out so i wont have to geta video spliter, (the z1 only has one rear seat entertainment output right)

They do have ones with DVD players but I would bet most they sell are the headrest monitors which have no dvd player and look like the stock headrest. Very nice stuff monitor wise. And the ones with dvd players, I think they can take an input and even output to the Z1 so you would have 2 dvd players... a little over the top, but both make some nice stuff.

The one you found is cheap and looks fine, but as for video quality, I don't know.

Directed screens have decent picture quality. As do audiovox screens.

The rear speakers will always play what the front ones do. No change in volume without fading

That stinks, that's a neat feature on my wife's acura, it's a shame Pioneer doesn't have that at least as an option.

better get some good headphones to kill that rear noise, hey the rear channel uses pre outs, so I’m assuming the screen amplifies it for the headphones? I mean I’m thinking of using some good studio quality headphones for the back, so ill need more power then a pre-out will provide.
