Z120BT Won't Show incoming call sometimes

So, I bought this Z120BT used, and it works great, except that I have been having problems with incoming calls not popping up on the screen. I see them come in the phone, or I miss the call completely. If I reboot my iPhone 4S, or if I shut the car off and start it again, it will start working again. It usually happens after I make a call, which works fine, but the next incoming call doesn't pop up.

I haven't checked to see what version the Bluetooth firmware is, but wondering if that could be the issue, or if anyone has any ideas? The deck shows a manufacture date of 2010, and its in great shape, and works great, but I doubt any software has ever been updated.

I searched on here, but didn't see anything that was similar to my situation.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I can think of a lot of things to try. Some are unlikely - but worth trying because they are relatively simple:

  1. Make sure your 4S has the latest software. Might try restarting/rebooting. I don't have an iPhone so don't know if that's possible. I know Apple likes to make that sort of stuff difficult. My point is you can't just assume it is an AVIC problem.
  2. Are you sure it is a Z120 (not just an upgraded Z110? (although 2010 should be a Z120)
  3. Make sure your AVIC BT firmware is 3.22 (stock f/w for a Z120)
  4. Re-pair your phone w/ the AVIC.
  5. Do a hard reset of the AVIC by disconnecting your battery for a few seconds. Or, if you know the fuse that powers the yellow wire - pull that instead. You might loose some settings - but that's a minor inconvienence.
  6. Upgrade to CNSD210FM (Z130) or CNSD310FM (Z140) software (which also includes newer BT versions).
  7. It is possible the HU is overheating. Have you been running your heater lately - or just poor air circulation.
  8. Maybe there is a hardware problem - could be why the Z120 was for sale. Did you buy it from someone you trust - or ebay???

Good luck

I checked my software versions yesterday, and found that the deck software is at 2.000, and the BT firmware says 3.11, so maybe that is the issue.

I have been wanting to upgrade to CNSD210FM (Z130) or CNSD310FM (Z140) software, and have looked through a bunch of threads, but most talk about the upgrade from the Z110 to 130 or 140, haven't seen much on the upgrade of the 120 to 130. If you had a link for a thread that is the most detailed, that would be awesome.

As for your other suggestions....

My phone is on the latest iOS, and if I reboot it, the inbound calls will work again, for a few times, or at least until I make another call. It seems to be triggered by when I make a call, then afterwards it won't show anything on the deck when someone is calling. I have caught the call coming in, and tried to switch inputs to the Pioneer, but then I just get a message on the deck saying that the call was disconnected.

As for overheating, I don't think so, as I have actually had the A/C running and all other features of the deck work perfectly.

I just pulled the deck from the car yesterday, and it did it before, and has done it since, so I think the power reset probably didn't help.

Finally, I purchased it off of ebay, but from a private party that gave me plenty of time to try it out to make sure it was working as advertised, and he has been easy to communicate with, etc. I don't think he was trying to hide anything, as the BT seemed to be working fine when it all started.

Thanks again for you help....

OOOPS, looks like 3.11 was the correct version for Z120. Also, there was a free Pioneer patch that came out in summer 2010.

"This firmware update (version 2.003000) contains important improvements addressing Bluetooth

Hands-Free and Voice Recognition operations"

You need to check the APP version using the hidden screen:

Check the version number of your current software by completing the following steps:

ï‚· Press the “HOME†key

ï‚· Select the “Settings†tab

ï‚· Select “System Settingsâ€

ï‚· Select “Service Informationâ€

ï‚· Press & hold left upper corner of the “Service Information†screen for a few seconds

If the “Application Version†shows 2.003000 or higher, then your AVIC-Z120BT is already equipped with

the latest software version and there is no need for this firmware update. If the “Application Version†shows

version 2.002100 or lower, please proceed with the update.

get it from here: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/GPS-Navigation/AVIC-Z120BT?tab=firmware

AFA the other upgrades., it's been covered over & over & over. Just read those thread - as cluttered as they are. If you do upgrade, don't forget the BT upgrade - it's a separate step.

Yea, mine is currently at 2.000000, so it needs that update for sure. I'll start with that and see what happens.
