I have an F90BT that has been in the truck and working normaly for over a year. A few weeks ago I noticed that at times the screen would appear dim, then back to normal, so on and so fourth. I checked the settings to make sure somehow the brightness was not getting messed with and it wasn't so I was starting think that maybe the screen was going out.

Now I am having the black screen issue however mine is acting a bit different than all of the post I can find on the subject.

When I start the truck, the splash screen will come on, then the screen will go black however I still have a working radio just no visable screen. For example the other day it was working in the morning and I had the radio on before I shut the truck off. When I got back in later on the screen went black but the radio came on. I had full volume control and I could jump between my presets using by tilting the volumne knob.

The other evening I figured maybe I would just try to reset the unit so I held the reset button and everything went back to normal. It stayed normal for a few hours then later on when I started the truck up, splash screen, then black screen, but radio still played and I had control of volume, etc.

I have not done any recent updates or anything to the unit. I know someone was saying that if the unit sensed the parking brake while moving it would revert into this mode but how is that possible? The unit can not OTA update itself, and since it has been running fine for over a year bypassed there can't be anything in the firmware that I am running on the unit now. I highly doubt Pioneer has their own GPS satalite system that could trigger something in the unit.

I am at a loss. I am going to try and reset it tonight and hopefully get a working screen so that I can check the reverse camera setting.

I was considering doing the update but it seems that everyone that did the update was having a problem where the radio just kept rebooting, mine works its just a black screen.

Anyone else had this problem??

many folks have reported that doing a fresh install (like hybrid-4.001 method) with format have solved this kind of problem. just be sure to read the entire thread and understand whats going on. it's not that hard to do, but isnt just sticking in a sd card and pressing a button - requires more attention to detail and several steps

Looking at Pioneer's website I can download version 2.008000, put it onto and SD card, insert SD into slot and it will automatically start the update process. Do you think this would be worth a shot first or is this not the same firmware you were refering to?

http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/33431-hybrid-4001-cnsd-300fm-guide-updated/ is that the frsh install you were refering to?

yes, always start with the simplest, least-invasive option first.

yes, that is the guide.

So start with the 2.008 update from Pioneer first. I know I got this unit when it was just released so chances are 2.008 would be an update from where I was.

One question I do have and you may or may not know, is the 2.008 the most current version for the F900? I keep seeing 3.0 and you mentioned 4.001, just curious as the last update Pioneer is showing is 2.008.
