Hello all,

I'm trying to set up a JBL MS-8 DSP with my Z130BT. The JBL only wants signal from the Z130BT front outputs, into its Inputs 1 & 2, & when setting the unit up I tell the JBL what speakers are connected to which of its outputs. My question is: should I have the subwoofer option on the Z130ZBT on or off? Or would it matter? Does having it on somehow subtract some frequencies from the front output? What exactly does the subwoofer on vs off option do?

Thanks from a newbie!

Turning the sub output on should send signal to the sub pre-outs.  It will also set up a low pass filter on the sub output, and an (adjustable) high pass filter on the front/rear speaker outputs.  This allows the radio to manage the crossover between main speakers and the sub.  So yes if you leave it on there is a change you will filter out some of the low frequencies from the main speaker outputs (although that can usually be adjusted).

If you're not planning to use the sub pre-outs, then to play it safe turn off the sub on the head unit.
