Now that the D3 is coming out, is there any word if this means we can expect a software update to the D2? I'm especially interested in them fixing the iPod integration.

One can only hope and wish. I'm getting ready to have the unit removed if something doesn't change soon. Part of my issues have been install problems at circuit city.

I highly doubt the upcoming software update is going to change the ipod/sirius integration of the d1/2. Look at what happened with the n series when the ipod interface changed. It was an actual chip inside the brain that was changed. With d3 being a complete overhaul of the previous generations, I don't see it even being possible to just swap chips like was possible with the n series.

On a final note, look at the actual ipod interface now. Last years was a big box and all. Now it's just a single cable that has it's own proprietary plug on the back of the unit.

If you think about the, the entire D3 is a huge design change over the D1/D2 models. Single disc slot, dvd playback, better ipod, etc.

The D2 was simply a software upgrade over the D1.

You can't forget about the silk screening on the face, that changed too! it said D2 instead of D1

We hear that the D3 disks will work in a D1/2 but it will not change the ipod control at all, only update the mapping/POI info

That definitely would be nice if it does. Just to get the new POI in the D1's/D2's
