Can I use any universal camera with the D3 unit, assuming it is the same as the D2? I'd rather buy an inexpensive camera than the 200+ Pioneer camera.

If I did not use the Pioneer camera, will it still engage when I go in reverse?

You can use anyones camera. They may not all reverse the image automatically though

What does reverse the image mean?

The camera automatically turns the image around so it's like if you were looking in the rear view mirror.
