Going from D1 to D2 on AVIC. Any huge benefits?

What benefits upgrading to d1-d2? I have the 1.02 fixed d1 disks from Pioneer and everything is working fine. I recently picked up some d2 upgrade disks and found out after the fact that they are copies. I am a bit concerned on several levels. I asked Pioneer and they stated you can not downgrade in case these don't work properly. I also have heard that burned disk do not last quite as long the originals from Pioneer. Anyone have any problems using these? Pioneer is coming out with new software in April to upgrade to the d3. Maybe I'll just wait.

It is possible to downgrade a d1 to the older software. It's done through the serive menu. I've had a backup copy of my 60 series maps in my d1 for almost a year now without a single problem.

They are technically right a dvdr will only last about 15 or 20 years. a pressed dvd will last up to 70.

I want to make sure the discs last longer! (even though I will only keep the unit at most 5 years lol)

Well then what you'll have to do is take the dvds to the local dry cleaner and tell them you need the dvds pressed. Make sure they don't use starch, that'll make the dvds spin off balance in the avic.

Thanks :!: If the copies work, I'm good.
