On my AVH8500, I like to have SiriusXM always playing off the bat when I get in the vehicle.  I always connect my iPhone 5 to the unit with the AppRadio app ready to pair up.  However when I do this, it automatically switches to USB2 (my iPhone).  Then I have to switch back. 

 

One of the things that drove me nuts with the AppRadio 2 was the constant need to touch screen through a series of "ok" and prompts before I could get music playing.  So its a little disappointing that the AVH8500 goes from a playing source to telling me the iPhone 5 is connected but nothing to play back on it.  

 

Best Buy hooked my iPhone 5 up to the 2nd USB port and then ran a USB extension to my glove box for a hard drive option.  (Having trouble with hard drive option, but that is another thread.)  

 

Does anyone know if there is a way to set the default source or to stop the unit from flipping to the "format read" confirmation as USB2 source and stay on the XM Radio?  

most units will switch to a new source when a new source is added. plugging the iphone in is adding a new source.

 

 

 

 

haven't tried it yet but what happens if you plug the phone in before you start the car/turn on the radio
