Things that IMO would make the Z1 Perfect

I have owned my Z1 for a few months now and would like to comment on a few things that I feel can really improve this already good product.

1: Boot time way too long. From the time the car is started it can take up to 30 seconds for the system to become "ready". If left in FM mode it comes up quicker but you still can not change to the next memory channel, just scan.

2: NO MUTE control on unit!! With head units that have a rotary volume control this would be no big deal as you simply would turn the control down but with the Z1, you hae to press the volume button many times just to lower the volume!! This has bothered me so I installed my own pushbutton on/off button wired to the cell mute. Instead of the Tape button on the front of the unit or some other button hardly ever used, why couldn't Pioneer put a mute button on the front??

3: Fast/forward scan WAY TOO SLOW!! While searching for a a section on a track, you hold the ff button and it scrolls what, every 3-5 seconds?? Normally, when you hold the button on other units for a few seconds, the scan gets quicker but not on the Z1...

Those are the main "gripes" that I have with the unit. Overall the nav and dvd playback functions work very well. The sound quality is decent and I really like the fact that it was easy to bypass the dvd/nav lockouts while driving.

If Pioneer could address the issues above and incorporate some of them into a firmware update, it would really transform this unit!!

Thanks!!

hopefully these considerations are included in the Z2, but i doubt it. I wish they did have a defrag option or something to increase the boot up speed.

Try pressing and holding the AV button for a sec or so. It turns off any audio. Nav and other stuff still works (actually, I'm assuming that Bluetooth still works).

That's not quite a "mute" but still a good thing...

I am going to give it a try in a few minutes when I drive home.

Thank you.

I really like that hold down AV feature.

Hold it down about 2 seconds, it turns everything off.

Push it again it goes back to whatever you were using. Almost a MUTE.

I dont use CD so it doesnt have to spin-up/down, I just use XM and iPod

I found out about it using my remote. On the "Source" button, it also says "off". So when I saw that (and figured out how to work it), I decided to try the AV button and it did the same.

One thing I noticed is that when you use the AV button to "wake up" the avic, if you are/were on a map screen, all it does is take you to the AV screen (in this case the one that says 'Off'). You have to push it a second time for it to actually turn on.

Not a prob. with the CD-SR1

It really is mute, because the sound is "mute" when you hold it down. I think what you guys want is an attenuate button
