hey guys, i have (yes you guessed it) another question. i have the avic n3 installed and I keep getting hissing noise from my speakers when nothing is turned on, no navigation, no cds, no dvds, no radio nothing.....and my speakers keep hissing..... thats not normal is it? ![]()
hissing from speakers
The amp on? If so then turn the gain on it down.

yea i have 2 amps and a capacitor installed, i tried turning down the gain but still the hiss. i have a 4 channel 1200 watt mtx, and a 900 watt rockford. I USED to have another 2 channel sony xplod, but the installer said it could be because of that amp, so i changed the amp for the mtx and still the hiss.
are you making sure everything has a good ground?
well i had it installed pro at future shop, and they checked and rechecked everything. both amps have seperate grounds as well as the avic. could a bad ground cause hissing even when nothing on the avic is playing?
my friend had horrible hissing when no audio source was playing. His amp wasnt grounded properly.
so a bad ground can cause the noise? well ill double check it, any other reasons? also, would a ground loop isolator stop it?
do you have a good quality RCAs?

A ground loop isolator is never as good as an actual group. From my experience, they never did much.
yea ive got some gold plated rca's i cant remember the company off the top of my head, but with my old deck i never had a problem, could it be the avic n3 unit it self?
the avic requires everything to be well-grounded. I dunno why. I've tried other decks in my car, and the factory deck, and they all work fine. But with the avic, i had some buzzing. It turned out to be 2 things in my case.
The amp wasn't grounded incredibly well,
and I hadn't crimped my ground connections for the avic too well. When I soldered and crimped my Avic's ground to a solid source, and grounded the factory amp to a better spot, the noise went away.
well thx alot for the help from all. i will try out the crimping, and let you all know how it went, however that will be in a few weeks. thx again.
it could be the internal fan ur hearing, i hear it all the time... i've learned to live w/ it
This post has been dead for about 2 weeks now. I think you can stop posting your info.

thanks for ur positive input guy.
hey no its not the fan, i heard the fan, this is a loud hissing. i have another question. when it was being installed the installer cut the avic wires at the back of the unit that plug into the unit. he did that to see if it was my amps that was making the noise, anyway, he just taped it back up, that wont cause any problems for me would it? the engine noise used to come only when i turn on the rear window defroster, but after he did that, it was there nonstop.
What do you mean by just taped it back up? Did he just twist the wires together without soldering or using those connectors?
yes thats what i think. i think he twisted it together and used electrical tape, because i didnt see a soldering iron in his hand or anything of that nature
well after 2 months of waiting for my unit from pioneer, i got it back with the same problem. the hissing noise from the speakers when nothing is on, and the engine noise as well. i installed 2 ground loop isolators, and the hissing and engine noise went down, but still audible. when the installers were trying to ground my amps the noise would fluctuate depending on where they put the grounds. the isntaller said it still may be a problem with my avic n3, however i dont want to wait another 2 months for these ppl again. i dont believe its the avic, but i found no solution for my problem. one more thing, when they played with the frequency on the amps, the noise and hissing did go down. (high pass, full range, low pass etc) it went down on the high pass setting. just an update, thx for all the input.
I don't know if this is true, but in my car, the factory amps require 4 volt balanced inputs and the preouts put out 2v unbalanced inputs, which adds to the noise and reduced volume levels... Can anyone tell me if this is true? And maybe if its related?
well ive been trying now for almost 4 months to solve my noise issues. anyway i just decided to turn down the gain on the amp, however after the avic n3 was installed, my illumination bulbs started to blow, 3 of them and my left head light went today, so i think there maybe a short or something. my car was perfect untill those future shop installers messed up my ride.
Congrats bulbs go bad. Nothing's crossed or miswired. It's life bulbs don't last forever.
