Guys, i'm sorry if that is covered somewhere in user manual - my unit didn't come with one...

The quesiton is... how to make it so that when i turn on the car, my z would not be starting playing music right as soon as it is booted up?

i'm using the remote start and it is kind of awkward to be turning on the car at 5am...with my sound system...:oops:

i think you either have to mute it before you leave or turn the av source off. Maybe I am wrong, but i thought that was the only way.

well actually you could wire up a relay that when the remote start starts the car, it would mute the avic, once you disengage the remote start it would give you sound back. like a mute. if this interests you let me know and I can tell you how to wire up a relay.. Ill also need to know what alarm remote start you got.

damn i guess i meant thats the easiest way without getting all fancy. Maybe I am just old fashioned. I am also interested on how you would do that.

well, yeah you should pre set things when you leave the vehicle so when you return it is at an appropriate volume, but you could use the mute wire along with ignition a and the remote start - out during activation to trigger the mute or even separate the ignition form the head unit which would keep your songs in their playing position (ipod, cd, and such... not am/fm/xm of course) to.

definitely not hard by any means, but harder then turning the volume down before you leave the vehicle though.

how do i mute the unit? I though it was that little button next to the "open screen" one.. but if i press and hold it, screen just turns off.. and only way to turn it back on is to change to nav.

mute wire, like cell phone mute. This isnt something you would do with your finger hence the whole start of this conversation, you werent going to be in the vehicle, it was for when the car remote started.

Hold down the AV button and it becomes a sort of mute button. It sources the deck to OFF. Hit it again and it goes back to whatever you were listening to

wow! cool thank you

I'm surprised you even have to bother with this. My remote start doesn't send power to the radio (probably for that very reaon). The radio will only work when you put the key into the ignition. Maybe you should check with your (remote start) installer and see if he did it correctly.

noo, action your remote start was either not hooked up properly or doesnt have the output for it.

Posted Feb 28, 2007 · 19:25 UTC#13

yeah.. all the outputs on the remote (Viper 897) are taken by the lightning / gull wings hydraulics(will be), window switches and couple other things.

uhh no thats not how or the only way a remote start is installed. I suggest either investigating or having a pro do it cuz some of this stuff being stated makes no sense from an installers point of view

Hmmm... Well, this is my second remote start on similar vehicles. Granted they were done by the same installer and are similar models (for manual vs. automatic transmission). On both of them, the radio will not work (or any accessory plugged into the lighter socket) unless The key is in the ignition. Car runs fine (of course) and the heater/AC turns on, if preset. Oh, and turning the ignition doesn't actually kill the remote start sequence, you have to press on the brake or clutch. Maybe it's an incorrect hook up, but I can't imagine wanting my radio to turn on, so I'll leave it this way.

well, theres a connection called "accessory" that is designed to function as such, as it functions from the factory, and comes on only when the key is in the position its suppose to be in in the key cylinder. not having the acc come on as designed is forcing your vehicle to run differently then it was intended. You can see this as clearly as the radio not working, or the lighter not working, so on. Because of this, rs have the necessary wiring to force the car to function as if the key was in and you were sitting there starting/running the car. As for why and who would want the radio on, its personal preference. There was a time when I was younger and had a killer sound system and would marvel at the ability to start the car from across the parking lot and have the radio come on at the volume it was at when I turned it off.. listening to the sound system as I approached the vehicle was cool.

So, the radio coming on is how it is SUPPOSE to be. the best way to eliminate the loud radio playing at 4 in the morning when you remote start is to turn the radio down the night before when you park the car. But if that isnt good enough there are other ways using the remote start to trigger relays and such to obtain the goal.
